Dimension X - Dimension X

Based on a 50's radio broadcast which the music largely illustrates, this album which is essentially a meeting of drums, guitars, bass and electronics from David Chalmin, Massimo Pupillo and Chris Corsano, sees a meeting of high art, skewered Battles-like high speed guitar puzzle pop and layered sci-fi vintage electronics setting the scene for the strange tale to unfold.

three mad noise freaks marry excerpts of stories broadcast on cult fifties radio show Dimension X with a barrage of drums, guitars and spooky electronic effects.

This bizarre hodgepodge of '50s sci-fi samples and blistering improv metal is a collaboration between guitarist David Chalmin, bass player Massimo Pupillo... and Chris Corsano. This outwardly doesn't seem like the kind of release Corsano would be found playing on: the oddly kitsch sleeve art and plunderphonic, Martian-themed concept doesn't really fit in with his ordinarily very earnest musical output, and in truth the constant barrage of B-movie dialogue is a bit of a distraction. Underneath all that you'll hear improvisations that sway between contemplative, faintly jazzy post-rock and blistering Lightning Bolt-style frenzy. Once you've come to terms with its more distracting elements, Dimension X's energetic zeal and combustive performances are likely to win you over. The musicianship is impressive and it's all recorded with the utmost clarity, despite the amount of noise and bluster flying about the place in these sessions. All in all a truly fantastic record
